”But he’s always so nice to me and my friends and family, who are exclusively white, he’s never racist around them.”
My mom pretty much had an existential crisis over this when she made a friend at work and her husband turned out to be Trump supporter. And this is in Canada. It makes you wonder where girls like that even find guys like that.
Trump supporters in Canada are especially stupid.
I’ve seen Confederate flags flying off the backs of pick up trucks on the west coast of Canada… Amazing how stupid people can be
When you realize it’s about racism and not politics you understand why they are like this and it’s not surprising.
America does supply the best racist symbols after WW2 era Germany
Like the ‘
Thin Blue LineCoward’s Swastika’, it’s really not exclusive to a single country. It just means they have fascist beliefs, are probably racist, and want others to know!don’t tel them Canada doesn’t have a president. Or god save the queen on their toonies.
I think German Trump supporters in Germany take the crown: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/07/world/europe/germany-trump-far-right.html
They even exist in Japan because he was “tough” on china
I’ve met a Belgian Trump supporter. The world just continues to surprise us eh?
There’s no limit to who will fall prey to their particular algorithms and confirm their particular biases. Mix that in with an identity rooted in the bigotry and biases they inherit from their parents.
That and stupidity. People are so fucking stupid.
Japan does have a history of siding with Nazis, after all.
When you’ve been conditioned all your life by society (and conservatives) to believe that your primary function is to be a baby factory, and you know you only have a finite amount of time to be a baby factory before you’re old and busted and cast aside, you do whatever you can to land someone stable enough to marry, regardless of their politics.
Define “stable”.
Might not kill you.
That… Makes me sad for some reason.
Enough to marry
So I guess capable of answering “I do” when asked a question would be stable enough
This is going to come as a shock to some folks but people don’t need to have the same politics to get along.
My wife is more conservative than me. We don’t spend much time talking about politics and avoid being dicks to each other. When elections roll around we go to the polls and I’m sure cancel out each other’s votes for a bunch of candidates.
When you and another person believe that there’s more to life than politics it’s easy to not get hung up on them when it comes to personal relationships. When you or the other person allow politics to dominate your life it isn’t.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but that’s exactly what I meant by letting politics dominate one’s life.
I believe that a person’s morals and values can be assessed and expressed in a more meaningful way through their actions and words in day-to-day life than by looking at their political beliefs. In other words seeing how a person treats the people around them, how they handle adversity, and how they enjoy life matters more than making sure they agree with you on issues X,Y, and Z.
Sometimes political beliefs do indicate core differences in values. A great example is differences in opinion on welfare policies. This indicates different ideas about the role personal responsibility vs the role outside forces play on people’s lives.
My argument is that that sort of difference in ideals would become apparent very quickly without relying on political ideology to define it. Doing so shuts out any possibility of nuance and immediately turns slight differences of ideals and values into a larger, more hostile “us against them” issue. You’re not dealing with a person with a slightly different perspective anymore, you’re dealing with “the enemy”.
If these people are in your social circle it says more about you than “average” straight people.
Yeah, what kind of amoral filth still has Republican friends?
The only person i know who isnt homophobic, racist and xenophobic is my sister
I cant just not be able to talk to anyone
Where the hell are you (broadly speaking), because I’m in Tennessee (70% Trump 2020) and the only Republicans I have to deal with are family and work related.
Romania
I hadn’t realized it was quite that bad on those issues there, but I suppose you might have to grade on a curve.
I live in rural Georgia and in general I can say almost all of the people around me are pretty conservative, my coworkers even casually say typical Republican shit like how it’s sooo absurd that “white people can’t say the N word but black people can”, or how society has gone to shit with this more than 2 genders nonsense, or how taxes are the reason we’re all poor even though they’re managers being paid slightly above other states’ minimum wage at best (~$15.50/hr) and have to waste an absurd amount of money on healthcare & car stuff, or whatever. Even a lot of the queer people I know, stereotypical with dyed hair and all, say this EXACT same shit.
I think everywhere outside of the major cities in this state are like this, those few civilized blue parts are the only ones keeping this place from collapsing… having days on my own in Savannah have been some of the best times of my life, I’m so used to be confined to this garbage rural suburbia surrounded by red that I truly envy people who live in cities… I’m planning to move to Chicago and hopefully it’s as good as Savannah, in terms of how nice it is to just walk around the city as well as the local establishments & events.
I’ve never lived in a blue county
That’s not the look of a bigot, it’s the look of a man who’s fed up with low-rent posturing clickbait. The look of someone who got a Salon article entitled What your household’s toothpaste preferences say about White Fragility™ that he knows will be paygated or cookienoticed after two seconds’ scrolling.
The Most Racist Man Alive is a metal band 🤘 dude is just wearing their T shirt
Thought it was Bert Kreischer
For some reason I’m reminded of a local house that flies both the Confederate and Pride flags.
They aren’t mutually exclusive flags, so I have to wonder if it is one opinion, or many.
They aren’t mutually exclusive flags
I wonder how the Confederates would have felt about Pride month.
Most people were not very accepting of “different” people back then, but maybe it was just not talked about. There were a ton of “confirmed bachelors” and plenty of women had “roommates”.
People in the North and South were not different. The North had a ton of racists who didn’t want to fight and die for “colored people”. There was a huge riot in NYC of people who didn’t want to be drafted. They killed black people they found for no reason.
I think the Union’s stake in the civil war was more about federal supremacy over the United States (which obviously goes without question in a federal system). Ending slavery was just a function of that goal. I say this as someone who grew up in the southwest and is wholly committed to the authority of the federal government over individual states because that is obviously the system outlined in the constitution.
Of course “The North” was just as racist and still is just as shitty and racist as every other part of this country.
P.S. “The South” can suck it as a name, I propose a better title for former confederate states: The Losers (since it seems a certain demographic therein needs reminding).
Sure, the North wanted consolidation. Of course the only reason the south seceded was because the federation said no more slaves
Many of the people in the North were as racist as the South, but the government was less so
I don’t know what you are saying other than exactly what I said. Also The Federation isn’t a government yet, you’re about 140 years too early.
What did the south secede from?
pretty sure it wasn’t The Federation.
A huge part of that riot was the Irish who were fresh off the boat from the potato famine and we’re not pleased that they had escaped one hell and we’re going to be drafted to a war they didn’t care about.
I don’t get the joke.
The joke is that every 1 out of 3 heterosexual couples features a basic woman and a racist bro.
Sometimes the gal can be racist. My friends tried to hook me up with a cute lady who had an amazing accent. Turns out, she was south-african and very quickly let me know that ending apartheid was a mistake because “some people just can’t prepare for modern life”.
Noped right the fuck out of setting up that date.
Yeah, this is true. So-called “country girls” are some of the most racist people I’ve met.
She’s right, she is that some people.
Which is ironic because this is just another form of prejudism against heteros. Heterophobia?
These people definitely exist, and 1/3 of the time they find each other.
Only if you think being hetero means racist. Says more about you than anyone else.
I’m a little confused.
If I said a 3rd of gay men are racists, I would expect most people to consider this homophobic.
I would expect the same to apply to heteros. We’re all people here.
Maybe I’ve misunderstood something, and maybe the above isn’t true?
You’re absolutely right. The comic above is absolutely prejudiced, it’s just targeting a group that’s seen as more privileged, and thus “punching up” and so it’s ok. BS is what it is.
Sure sure. So if I made a post essentially saying 1 in 3 black men are violent, it’s only racist if you believe black men are violent. Says more about you than anyone else.
Hopefully you can see why that doesn’t work.
I’m sorry your brain is broken. ☹️
Good conversation. Thanks for the useful input.
Oh no, not the poor heteros!
Hate is hate. Probably better to just be a nice person than to preach prejudism, no matter who it’s aimed at
It’s not prejudice to hate whoever I hate because I am a good person.
It’s a shame “the golden rule” was already taken. You’ve summed up so many ideologies!
We could go with the rusted rule. Pyrite (fool’s gold) rule. There are some options.
Said all those conservatives we all keep complaining about.
It’s ok to be racist against white people, you forgot
Neither did I. I may still not understand it. But I googled salon article and found a site with that name that publishes progressive news and opinions. So I guess they are saying a lot of couples are opposite in opinion on these things. They might be joking about the one spouse being oblivious to their partners racism or having double standards or something.
I think the point is that she’s a nice person in general and he’s a very racist POS.
Hm, ok, I would have never guessed it from her speech bubble.
It’s that they both are, he just wears it on his sle… Shirt.
She’s just more subtle. She supports BLM in spirit but agrees that the roads need to be clear for health and safety reasons.
It’s funny because it’s soooo true!
In fact in MY suburbs, you see it in FIVE out of every FOUR hetero couples! Now waddaya think of that, huh?Lotta key parties in your neck of the woods?
itt, people this shitpost is about
I want that shirt
What even is this? This is theleftcantmeme tier shit.
You projected politics onto it. Being racist or condemning racism is apolitical.
Salon.com has nothing to do with racism either. It’s just a known progressive news website they’re referencing to imply they have opposing political views.
Blunt version: straight male bad, conservative = racist
I’m actually kind of curious how you’re interpreting this comic though
How do you know the guy is a conservative? The image mentions nothing about politics
Their opposing political views are implied by the salon article-sharing progressive woman vs. straight white conservative man. He’s a cartoon man in a single comic panel. If they’re not relying on stereotypes here I’m gonna need the joke explained to me
I see a woman tolerant of racism while denying it and a racist man. The conservative part I’m guessing you extrapolated by the thought that it is a regressive trait and therefore more likely to be a conservative?
That’s a reasonable assumption I think
There are implied political signals, but nothing overtly political. I’m not even attributing racism to conservatism. I wouldn’t trust a couple that matches the one in the comic to be up-to-date on the political landscape.
The juxtaposition is the entire point of the comic though, right? I wouldn’t describe salon.com as a racial news site if I had to pick 1 adjective. If she had a BLM t-shirt or something maybe we could ignore politics
What is that saying? A hungry person always has bread on their mind.
There’s another saying which goes “get your head out of your ass”
Yeah, it is political, when your politics come down to “woke” vs “antiwoke”.
I’m starting to understand why today’s “conservatives” see a brutal dictator like putin as a hero.
Ok

Nah, progressive racism is well meaning misguided white savior sort of shit, like “if we cut welfare all the black people will starve!”
Still, cutting welfare would be bad
I agree. Their intentions are good. Their justification is fucked though.
Yeah but if a progressive doesn’t say that shit, they ironically get called racist by those with bluer hair than their own
I’d rather be called a racist than be a racist
I’d rather I didn’t have to choose
