Yeah Grammarly was selling all your data LONG before the AI showed up.
Funny how some people are only nervous now that their data might be used to train a language model. I was always more worried about spooks! :)

Spoiler alert, federated networks made up of small-time server owners are extremely vulnerable to both human and AI driven propaganda, dissemination, manipulation etc.
I predict that unfortunately lemmy and the other fediverse networks are doomed. We have maybe a few years at most, then only paywalled serviced will be able to stand up against the onslaught.
Would you be willing to pay like ~$2 dollars a month to avoid this? Or are you expecting solutions for free?
This is a fucking ad.
It’s a phone app, you can trust it as much as you trust Google/Apple.
Hey if it’s fruit or a pack of gummy worms, I’m probably better off eating fruit right?
Couldn’t you just ignore the ads?
That’s not how ads work, they are extremely manipulative and leave lasting impressions on your psyche, even if you conciously reject their message.
If it’s as revolutionary as some claim it might be, then it’s a tragedy that there is a patent on it.
I would avoid reading that.
EAT THE RICH (they’re keto!)
Good answer, anyone who has that level of wealth and hoardes it is despicable IMO.
I’d probably dump most of it into open source or fediverse projects I thought were cool.
I don’t need anywhere near that amount to fund my own existence tbh.
Signal is a smartphone app, so you can trust it as much as you trust smartphones. :) It is more reliable and user friendly however, which is important too.
Hmmm, we’re getting a fuckload of web requests on our Lemmy too… I think I’ll enable CloudFlare too! :)
I asked my co-admin once if he thought Capitalism was evil, he’s usually extremely careful with his words. He responded with “it might be”.
It seems to have a lot of real problems, wealth inequality, human exploitation, environmental destruction. I think countries that have a mixed system, where it’s part capitalist and part socialist tend to do better in most metrics. I wouldn’t want to live in a country without socialised medicine, socialised education and pretty strict environmental restrictions.
