Vampire Weekend were known as the pioneers of One Direction knock-offs, being largely successful with their approach of making music completely different than the famous boygroup even years before their start in music.
Some of their songs are quite good.
I actually discovered a completely new music review site when I was looking for more information about them. Have any of y’all heard of something called “pitchfork?”
Personally, I prefer small, underground community review sites like Rate Your Music. You’re more likely to get people who really know what they’re talking about.
Edit: also, anyone heard of Last.fm? I heard someone suggesting it but it looks like a Spotify knock-off that only gives you playlist suggestions and stuff like that, but you have to provide your own music. Why would anyone want something like that?
The sarcasm flying over people’s heads in this thread is killing me lmao
Last.fm is great for keeping track of your music
Their modern reviews are pretty bland, but from 2000-2012 or so, they were probably the best indie reviewers out there. Since then, they gotten a little too afraid to write negative reviews for stuff that other publications like and vice versa (IMHO), but they still provide a slightly different point of view than the big dogs like Rolling Stone.
These days, I typically like Consequence of Sound and Line of Best Fit a little better, and albumoftheyear.org is great for seeing both positive and negative reviews of pretty much everything out there
Edit: albumoftheyear is also a great way to find new music sites, since they cast a pretty wide net
Pitchfork fucking sucks now; they did my bois Clipping. so dirty, how tf you gonna give all of their albums sub-six you fools? They’re masterpieces.
It’s too early for me to know if this is 3 layers of irony but Pitchfork was one of the most influential taste-maker’s when it came to that kind of indy / rock / whatever scenes through like 2010? Had music festivals and stuff too.
I was being a bit snarky, but I totally agree with you. I think I honestly did find Vampire Weekend’s first album along with several of my favorite bands of all time through Pitchfork in the mid 2000’s.
As bland and useless as they’ve gotten, I will forever be grateful to Pitchfork for first introducing me to The Hold Steady, The Drive-by Truckers, and TV on the Radio.
I thought Vampire Weekend and fun. were similar and both really good at the time!
This post looks like an ad for the band.
i wish vampire weekend paid me to post this its just from my camera roll :(
Maybe they paid final-girl-cas?
Vampire Weekend were the urban haute-bourgeoisie discovered indie rock. All scions of wealth with addresses in the Hamptons. As if to nod to it, they even named their second album Contra (“You know the Clash? Well, we’re on the other side of the spectrum”)
Gods this makes me feel old… I bought their actual CD at a record store. 😂
Just put it on for a hit of nostalgia, definitely holds up in my eyes, though I can’t compare to 1D since I’ve never actually listened to them lol(E: this album reminds me of a time I don’t like thinking back to too much, but genuinely loving listening to it again, thanks!)
As far as I remember, one of the worst, definitely one of the dampest bands of all time. Right up there with the strokes and the killers and two door fucking cinema club for making me want to go back in time and prevent the discovery of electricity, so that shit like this never fucking happens.
Whole lot of hate for a Trekkie…
So, big fan of butt rock?
Love butts, love rock, what could possibly go wrong 🥰
You must be fun at parties
Sounds like a bit of daft punk init
She’s absolutely about to become a daughter of cacophony or something.
I kind of want to call them seersucker pop.
