Lemmy for scratching the reddit itch
Facebook (by way of a disabled account) for archiving pictures of now-deceased family members
Discord, if it counts as social media, for tracking guilds for a game I used to be addicted to, also servers for subreddits I used to frequent & servers maintained by some of the fanfiction authors I follow
- Lemmy. To chat, mingle, waste some time.
That’s pretty much it. At least for social media. Other than that I use chat, WhatsApp and a few internet forums for various topics, Github, etc, but all of that isn’t really social media.
mbin only. i prefer the threadiverse
Reddit for niche communities (my town and the TTRPG I’m playing).
Lemmy for less niche communities (arguing about things, politics in my country) and trying to grow those communities.
Lemmy, because I like the community, the way you can post things, and the interface.
I don’t really count Discord as a public social media platform in my case, since I only use it to directly message close friends of mine and I never do anything else with it. When I say “social media” I’m typically referring to public platforms like the ones listed above, rather than an app I use to privately message friends.
Lemmy as a Reddit replacement.
Facebook - pseudonym account solely for FB marketplace.
Do YouTube and WhatsApp count as social media?
- Mastodon, my main social media
- Pixelfed, to show off my photography
- Lemmy, to replace Reddit
- A deactivated Facebook account not in my name with only 3 friends on it for a fantasy football group chat
- Discord for gaming with buddies
Lemmy for having a reddit like experience on not-reddit (also advertising seems pointless here so… more genuine users and no chatgpt onlyfans karma farmers?)
YouTube for “TV on demand”, Twitch for “live TV”. I don’t watch TV or movies.
- Reddit - for everything that Lemmy doesn’t have
- Lemmy - for everything else
- Bluesky - mainly for following artists and more personal stuff
- Discord - to talk with friends and follow news & updates of some projects
Lemmy YouTube
- Tumblr - my first real main social media platform, mainly fandom stuff, used to post fanart there as well, I’ve been on that hellsite for half of my life now and will probably stay there until Automattic pulls the plug
- Mastodon - My main Twitter replacement, really good for fandom since it’s easy to talk about spoilers with custom CWs
- Bluesky - Second Twitter replacement
- Lemmy - As reddit replacement with less lazy engagement bait posts (this is really a problem on reddit especially in game-(dev) subreddits
- Discord - for Gaming-buddies, fandom communities, and gamedev communities
Lemmy - Bailed on reddit during the API fiasco and found this community to be much more welcoming and enjoyable. I don’t get into fights on here at all because (most of) our users aren’t needlessly confrontational over inconsequential things. As a result, my levels of stress and general doom/angst have been much lower since migrating here. However, the election poisoned the well and I find myself avoiding Lemmy more often because I can’t sit here and read about Donald Trump all fucking day.
Facebook - I immigrated to a different country several years back and Facebook is unfortunately my easiest link to friends and family back home. It lets them share in my life here and see my daughter grow up.
WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger/Discord - Light/casual use for communicating with a select few friends or family members. Really not a fan of Discord, though.
lemmy - news and funny pics and the casual convo
x - look at artists’ work and get inspiration
yt - yt has chat (social) and clips (media)
fb - for the rest of the family
discord - some local interest news
- Lemmy, wanting to believe more people will come here from reddit, like I did ;)
- Discord, for the few online courses I’m following that offer Discord salons.
- I have a mastodon account but almost never think about using it.
- I quit Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,… and have not looked back. I miss them as much as I would miss, say, being spat on in the face by strangers in the street.
- Lemmy, I love reading the comments and seeing cool insights and learning new things every day
- LinkedIn, just scrolling through game dev news and laughing at the insanity of corporate LinkedIn
- Discord, I manage a few communities so I need to check in regularly to ensure no spam or troll got through the automated filters. Also to chat with the friends I made on the platform since first using it (2016)
I do have a Bluesky account but the microblogging stuff just isn’t for me. I like nuance and being able to have all the facts laid out. A conversation, if you will.
My twitter and facebook accounts have been disabled / removed for a while
