As part of DeSantis’ “Freedom Summer” initiative, the state’s transportation secretary, Jared W. Perdue, announced earlier this month that bridges in the state will have no choice but to be illuminated in red, white and blue from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

“Thanks to the leadership of @GovRonDeSantis, Florida continues to be the freest state in the nation,” Perdue wrote on X.

Give my regards to the Ministry of Truth.

This feels like it’s just a way to get around Pride in June.

Didn’t read the article before I said this. Why are my shittiest suspicions about Desantis always right.

The rain is starting to end. The sun begins to peek from the clouds. DeSantis looks upward in dread.

I do like that the rainbow has been ruined for them despite their holy book talking about how god made it to show Noah and his descendants that he wouldn’t kill them all off like he did everyone who came before them.

Gosh, it would be a shame if some of those lights were to be combined or refracted into other colors…

In many ways, it’s exactly like Pleasantville. The world is changing and the reactionaries don’t like it, so they try to use the force of law to make things back the way they perceived them to be, including by restricting the use of color.

As part of DeSantis’ “Freedom Summer” initiative, the state’s transportation secretary announced that bridges can only be illuminated in red, white and blue this summer.

Because nothing says freedom like restricting the colors people can use.

    As The Washington Post reported:

The Ringling Causeway Bridge over Sarasota Bay usually lights up in rainbow colors for a week in June, and also marks other causes during the summer, such as orange for National Gun Awareness Month and yellow for Women’s Equality Day.

So I went WTF is “National Gun Awareness Month”, I mean who actually needs a month long reminder that the US is full of guns? So I went and apparently it’s National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Accurate reporting from the Washington Post, as always.

Probably, but your insult for him isn’t very great.

        1. He’s clearly not gay, he is known for is inappropriate relationships with teenage girls.
        2. Republicans won’t hear you use “gay” to insult them, but all the queer people on Lemmy will.

That aside, DeSantis absolutely looks like a face that belongs on a mugshot on the sex offender registry.

I wonder if they could get away with illuminating the whole bridge in red, since the normal street lights are white and the sky is blue. You know, for Labor Day.
