Your metaphor of multiple instances = multiple “Reddits” is exactly how I think of it as a layperson!
A few other people use the email metaphor, but I found it not as digestible since email is not a forum.
I agree, the hardest part for me was getting started.
“I like news - I’ll just register on the news Lemmy!” Ah. Sweet summer child.
Luckily I stumbled across my current instance and the creator seemed friendly and like a decent human being. But I doubt many casual Redditors will have the same patience to figure it out.
Thank you!! Subscribed!
I’m really enjoying the interface! I browse mobile on Chrome. I hope to see lots of people stick around and build some great communities.
Pleasantly surprised that most people are friendly, polite, and positive here - you never know what to expect when you make the switch.
I’m not very tech-savvy so it took a little bit to find my instance, but now it’s been smooth sailing.
A little sad, but I am not as attached to specific communities online. I’ve seen subreddits rise and fall too, so this just feels like another chance to find something new.
Commenting as that was one of my favourite subreddits and would love to join a similar community on Lemmy!
It is summer here, so our night temp is set to 21C and daytime temp is set to 24C. If we’re away, the AC will turn off.
In winter, I think we keep the house at 18C at night and maybe 19-20C during the day. Our eco mode minimum is set to 15C so the pipes don’t freeze.
I also prefer cooler, but we set our temps in a way to save on our electric bill.
I’m in Canada and we definitely couldn’t just turn off our furnace in the winter - things start exploding when it is -30C or lower.
