I’ve got such mixed feelings about Fallout 4. Yes, the story isn’t great but tbh I was never expecting it to be very good. This game does come from the same company that in Fallout 3 wouldn’t let you send Fawkes into the water purifier because by doing so you would break the story (sorry for spoilers on a 15 year old game).
Obviously where the game really shines is in the gun play/ combat and the gameplay loop. Those two factors alone make me want to replay FO4 every so often, however whenever I do, I always find myself inexorably drawn to settlement building, each time I do a replay I try to do as little of it as I can but still end up taking ages setting it all up.
I remember when I first completed Fallout 4, feeling underwhelmed by the story, I comforted myself by thinking “They spend ages working on the creation engine for this release, I’m sure that on the next game there will be more focus on the story”. welp, 8 years since the last (single player) Fallout so it looks like that ain’t happening anytime soon.
The link rot from this is going to be monstrous, RIP
I’m worried the sucsess Netflix has had forcing people to stop password sharing is emboldening companies to perform policies such as this :(
Getting over it with Bennett Foddy(sp?) - completing the game 50 times. Once you’ve done it three times the other 47 are a breeze, just pop a podcast on. It’s the most fun achievement to show other people; they always think you’re a bit mad for doing it due to the game’s reputation.
My advice is only really applicable to PC, but don’t be afraid to cheat a little bit for QOL. Things like using player.additem for firewood when crafting arrows or a mod to bypass lock picking (if you hate the mini game) , things like that.
Normally for cheating like this I would say you’ll end up missing out on the way the game was meant to be enjoyed, but that kinda goes out the window when you’ve racked up 1,000+ hours.
They truly are playing by the Elon handbook now.
Unreal stuff. It looks like spez thinks the PR cannot get any worse so he may as well go full scorched earth.
I was interested in this and looked into it a little; It would appear that there is a bit of a fight going on between two mods of AdviceAnimals, one called Legweed who has apparently been MIA for approximately 12 months and wanted to join the blackout, and another called CedarWolf who does the heavy lifting of the moderation and didn’t want to join the blackout.
Legweed has posted DM’s between the mods found here: https://imgur.com/a/SKgjib7
In response, CedarWolf has posted this comment:
Legweed, you’ve done no modding on the subreddit for at least the past year. You haven’t said anything in modmail, you haven’t approved any submissions, you haven’t removed any spam, you’ve done absolutely nothing.
The only thing you’ve done all year is you came back out of nowhere to decide that we’re joining the Blackout, and you overrode all of the active moderators to do it.
You didn’t reply to PMs asking you what you were doing, and you didn’t discuss it or offer any compromise with the people actually doing the work until AFTER you got pushback about going dark.
That modmail thread you’re showing off? It’s from AFTER you decided to take our subreddit dark, and AFTER you made an announcement to everyone saying that’s what we were going to do.
Heck, of your actual modding that you’ve done this week, you made the announcement that we’re joining the Blackout, you’ve done some modmail, you’ve removed some comments, and you’ve approved two posts: one was normal, and the other broke three of our subreddit rules and wasn’t a meme, but you approved it anyway because it was critical of Spez.
If we ignore your mod actions for the past week, YOU’VE DONE NOTHING FOR WELL OVER A YEAR.
Now the other three of us have actually been doing the work. We’re following a decade of policy that we’ve always followed in the past: we stay open during a user protest because it gives our users somewhere to post and let their voices be heard.
It’ll be interesting if we get more instances of mod friction on other subreddits after the dust has settled
I’ve done a no fast travel run in oblivion a while ago, it was a lot more fun than I was expecting and helps a ton with immersion. You get a much better feel for how all the cities connect together and eventually you find yourself relying on the map a lot less, plus the roads are much better designed than I thought they would be. One minor problem though, the second you go off road the experiance becomes a lot less… Polished and kind of feels like a cheap survival crafting game.
“One of the incidents cited by ad executives was the spread of an AI-generated image that falsely suggested there had been a large explosion at the Pentagon.”
Sure do love it every time paid verification comes back to bite Musk in the arse.
That’s an interesting point that I hadn’t considered, the comparison to Google indexing in the early 2000’s may prove to be very apt with the number of people I’ve seen using chat GPT as a search engine.
