Oh I agree to all that, still. Maybe I’ve seen and read too many dystopian movies and books.

I wish I was kidding, but what are the chances that China will become the first country to mass produce their new population via in vitro?
It was the silence for us. We were able to go out into the fields and not hear the constant background hum of distant cars. The air felt lighter and it was just my wife, my kids, the dog and me. We honestly miss those moments.
Hey, just wanted to say that I really have become accustomed to seeing your daily game pics. I don’t know if you have been told this enough but good on you for sticking to it. Looking forward to seeing another one tomorrow ;)
I will just post this here from a previous time this was brought up: While China is building a LOT of renewable energy and it should be applauded for it, it is not the only thing that are building. China accounted for 95% of the world’s new coal power construction activity in 2023, according to the latest annual report from https://globalenergymonitor.org/
The rule is ghat they need to make more money than the year before. A company that need to make money and does would not be an issue. But a company that needs to make more and more each year is the disease.
Parental leave, sick days (unlimited), 10 national holidays, and 52 vacation days for me. And I am European. Edit. And two days telework a week.
He does this to get people to talk about him. He hates not being the topic of every conversation. He will do ANYTHING to become the most spoken about topic.
Someone get him some cherries.
Dome keeper. It’s a really fantastic game.
Can I just say that for me, the way that people respond to these things is the most demotivating of all. When ever anything is done, as long as it is not the perfect solution it is the wrong solution. We all know that the best solution would be a complete turn around from what current standards are. Stop eating so much meat, take a bike, invest in infrastructure that reflects sunlight. Tax the rich (or eat them), invest in nuclear, etc. People know this and a lot of people try. And for me, any company that also at least tries to do something should be lauded in stead of the flood of negative remarks. I would love it if my kids, who constantly hear that they will have to survive in hell, would sometimes get a glimmer of optimistic or supportive remarks to read as well.
The moment that I wasn’t allowed to do with my 6 accounts what I want to do, it was done for me.
Covid has shown me that a lot of parents shouldn’t be. During the period that everybody was stuck at home there was a large amount of people that found out that they don’t know, or want, to raise a child and couldn’t wait to get them to schools or activities just to get rid of them.
My ex used to say “you can’t be expected to give up your social life just because you have a child”. My kids and I are better off now.
I have seen people during the Trump administration that were proud to get fired. I am not saying that I don’t get it, but I respect those people more.
Thank you for explaining it. I still find it weird how it works, but ok.
Just a question as a ignorant European. From what I understand he is now a convicted rapist, right? Does that mean he is entered in the sexual offenders database that you have in the states?
How about Keanu? I think he would be cool to meet as well. Would genuinely find it hard to choose between the two (Hugh and Keanu)
Sure. If I remember correctly in Belgium in the 90s (or early 00) they reconnected the schelde and the leie, two rivers that used to be connected but were separated. The intend was to increase the debit that was missing from de schelde. This had a result of more oxygen in the water, increasing fish population and plant growth. 10 years after there were seals (and at some point even a dolphin) spotted in Ghent.
I would just like to point out that it is not all bad. There are several waterways in europe that have been reconnected in the last 30+ years and that those reconnections have had significant impact on the fauna and flora (in a positive way).
Oh sure, well, for books, there’s Brave New World, which you already mentioned. You might also like The Windup Girl, where they have “New People” created for specific roles, and The Island, which deals with cloning mainly for organ harvesting. The Handmaid’s Tale explores similar themes of control over reproduction, though in a different way, and The Children of Men is another classic that dives into issues of societal control and the value placed on human life. Genesis and The Clone touch on related ideas too.
For movies, you’ve got The Matrix as an obvious choice, then Gattaca for genetic engineering themes, and Aeon Flux, which also involves heavily regulated human bodies. You might also like Logan’s Run, which depicts a society where life is strictly limited and controlled; and Moon, which explores the unsettling use of clones in isolation.
To weather they are worth reading / watching, that is kinda up to the individual i think. I found them enjoyable.
