  • What you see in the news and on social media doesn’t paint a true picture of what daily life is like here for people. Most of Trump’s supporters aren’t the hateful bigots that the Internet makes them out to be, they’re just convinced that he’s the lesser of the 2 evils. This is why you see that his rallies are empty and he’s still polling at ~47%.

Most of the deepest Trump cult fanatics live in communities where that is more prevalent, like rural Alabama, so if you don’t live where they live, you just don’t really encounter them. And if you do live in those areas, you’re already used to the rampant racism because it’s always been there.

So me and my immigrant wife will still go visit my pro-trump uncle for his annual pig roast, because he’s not a bad person, he’s just a moron. I’ll still call my conservative mother every week because she’s not threatening to kill me for voting blue, she’s just consumed too much anti-Kamala propaganda. My religious sister is still welcome to visit because even though she’s an idiot, my nieces are freakin adorable and I love them.

  • I don’t think anybody here is siding with ISPs. We’re just happy to hear that they’re having difficulties policing piracy.

When I say individual rights I mean any and all rights an individual has or should have. In the case of piracy, an individual should have a right to entertainment media at a reasonable cost. The more corporations increase the cost of media access, the more piracy proliferates. In the case of AI, an individual should have the right to earn a living. Corporations are using the works of individuals to ultimately increase their own profits without due compensation to the individual.

I don’t know how you got to pro conservative capitalism from a single anti-corporatist statement, but it likely took you several leaps of logic that I’m not going to even try to follow.

  • Yeah, it’s most likely to prevent someone from using the family feature to get away with cheating.

As it stands now, if you get caught cheating you must create a new account and repurchase the game. So the main deterrent is the full cost of a game.

With the steam family function you could potentially create 5 new accounts per year, and simply remove them when they get caught cheating. The only deterrent would be the wait period.

So I agree with their decision. The downside is that you must trust someone before adding them to your family. If your cheating son gets you kicked off counterstrike, then just remove him from your family. They’re never too old to drop off at the fire station.

  • My entry point into Star Wars was KotOR so I’ve always been pretty critical of the average Star Wars media. I really enjoyed Rogue One, Andor, Mandalorian S1&2, and Clone Wars S7. Star Wars can deliver sometimes.

With a budget of $180M I was hopeful that Acolyte could be great, and it hasn’t delivered yet.

  • Well, according to China, those waters are their territory, which means that the presence of foreign military vessels is an invasion.

Practically speaking, I think you could call that area a contested region, so minor skirmishes like this are expected and could escalate to war (like Crimea eventually did).

I think that the Philippines approach has been something like, ‘You can claim those waters if you want, but you can’t possibly keep us from entering them, so we’re just going to ignore you until you start killing our people, and then we’re gonna call in big brother America.’

  • India is one of the last places I’d like to visit. This is based on how India has been portrayed in various travel shows over the years (Amazing Race, Top Gear). It looks crowded, dirty, and the locals often aren’t very friendly, especially towards women.

One of your main exports to the west is scam calls. It’s a huge PR problem and your government refuses to address it. Your other main export right now is Russian oil.

Indians used to have a fairly large online presence in English-speaking spaces with mixed results. There were a lot of helpful tech bros on YouTube, but also a lot of horny dudes on Facebook. I don’t really see much of either of those anymore though.

My wife works in software testing and has regular interactions with Indians. Some are really nice, but others are really not. Misogyny is far too common and when Indians are rude they are boldly rude.
