Why do you think it leveled the building? Have you seen such evidence?

Probably wasn’t even IT but ‘roadies’ based on those cables
You’re telling me in 2023, kids are using “Droid” again to refer to Android?
I hadn’t heard that since they literally first came out.
Also, this isn’t surprising. It was assumed that younger generations, those growing up with PCs, Tablets, Smartphones, etc, would become inherently skilled with their use. Turns out that was entirely false because it also turns out people don’t want to learn what they aren’t interested in. So if you don’t care about anything more than TikTok, Insta, and Snapchat, then you don’t learn anything more than what is necessary to operate them. And Apple makes this very easy in terms of not needing to relearn even an iota between their models. Android cannot say the same.
Yes, absolute game changer. Can’t live without it. Use various videos to go to sleep to at night and the last thing I need is for ads that the original content creator didn’t even ask for that are 5x as loud as the video I have playing.
Just. Be. There.
You’re a parent, so you know how this is going to work. By the seat of your pants. Medical and Psychiatric needs are beyond your control. I know you say that it’s a need but it’s simply not one you can provide other than it coming from you directly. It’s just not something you can unilaterally do. You can try and get in contact with counselors at their school, but that’s about it. So focus on what you can do and that is be there. Harvard released a study about 8 years ago that had the statement that every successful child had ONE invested, stable adult person in their life. Not parent, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, grandparent. Person.
It sounds to me like you’re pretty dedicated to being that person. So I’d say the best thing you can do now is to just be you, and don’t stress about the things beyond your control. If you can continue to just be willing to invest this much effort you’ve shown already then you’ll be the best thing going for this child.
That’s just not true to my personal experience with over 200 devices from Dell and Lenovo. Especially concerning the not connecting to internet. That is literally the only step you need to take if the OEM install wants to force a MS account to be able to install local accounts. “Nearly impossible” is absolute hyperbole and you know it.
Why would absolutely anyone on this sub install Home? Microsoft themselves make a multi-edition .iso available on their website. And funnily enough now, Microsoft supports the hosting of massgravel. Should it take as many steps as it does two make a local account? No, but it’s literally two extra clicks.
It’s literally two clicks to make a local account instead.
Very much doesn’t my guy.
This is why I make students install a copy of Windows without the use of a mouse.
You don’t. You’re highly likely going to go through some big psychological changes as you age that will probably cause perspective shifts about just who you are and what you want. And that’s biological. You’re going to experience other things that aren’t biological products that cause perspective shifts. You at 18 and you at 35 should be two fairly different people.
Hopefully you can find something that you continue to enjoy throughout life. If not it’s really not a big deal. Do what you have to, take opportunities given to you as they arise and you’ll probably end up somewhere you never expected. Work is work is work. Even if you love the field you can still hate work. It’s easier to make a change in career than to pigeonhole yourself into something that presents no way to diversify.
I mean that’s kind of a given if you’re at all familiar with IT. Check out the ANT Catalog and see what they were capable of in 2008-09. It’s scary now, let alone then. Check out EternalBlue and realize when combined with IrateMonk (a damn firmware hack) they could have any system they wanted. I mean the ANT Catalog is chock full of devices specifically designed to get through air gapped networks. And this was in 2009!
If the NSA or CIA want your digital lunch it’s been on their plate the moment they decided.
You’re exactly right. It’s not that I don’t want it to work, I would love for it to. But what you’re suggesting isn’t new. They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again.
Blacking out indefinitely won’t change a thing. Reddit has before and will again, if threatened this way, re-open shuttered subs if they believe it is valuable for their bottom line.
Alpha Protocol, cause and effect and replayability just made it one of the best of all time in my opinion.
In its current state, and if it stays in this state, this is why it will not replace Reddit. It’s not just unintuitive, it’s about as hard as you can make it without purposefully making it hard. You can blindly grope in the dark slapping r/ in front of a topic. Here it’s a totally different story. And splintering the discussion does not a (viable) Reddit competitor make. If a first time user is expecting Reddit communities and gets the sub 1000 community counts Lemmy currently has they’re gonna drop it like a lead balloon.
That’s all okay with me because at the end of the day I personally don’t care. For me I’m happy with what community there is. What itches I have that Lemmy doesn’t scratch that Reddit did are replaceable with other content from other sites.
The mod team is high on their own farts. Was told point blank when I started in the field “Don’t rely on r/sysadmin for anything. You’ll get worse than wrong information there.”
Then you’ve been mislead. It hit the parking lot, damaged vehicles but left the building relatively intact and, besides windows, superficially damaged.
