It doesn’t work properly on any client I’ve used. Liftoff, Raccoon, Eternity, or Connect.
It usually does this with animated images thay have been directly uploaded to Lemmy. External links with an exclamation (!) preceding it work fine, as do static images hosted by Lemmy.
I’ve learned to just not upload .gifs directly if I want them to show up in the comments correctly as they either are converted to a jpeg or break like the above, depending on which instance it’s on.
This is expected atm, it is a webm video. Which isn’t supported yet. Videos in general still need to be supported in Jerboa. But in the next update you will be to see first frame of the video (In the comments). (Ain’t much but its better than nothing atm)

Upgrade to iOS 17.4 and report back
Gonna be kinda hard to do that on android.
That’s annoying. It works for me on android, and on iOS after upgrading to the version just released.
On an app or just a web browser? Cuz the problem is in apps; the browser shows 'em fine.
Apps
If it works in the browser, then it’s probably a different issue than the one I am having.
