The issues at home. Is that a former president and most likely nominee of one of the most anti democracy, highly likely to win parties. Literally stated that he expects NATO members to pay tribute. Or not only would he not defend them. He would encourage Russia to attack them. And Americans collectively yawned.
It’s basic mob speak. ”nice defense pact you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it" I guarantee if they privately slipped him a fraction of the unmet obligation. He’d suddenly stop caring. Either way though. What he’s doing is not how things work, or were ever intended to. And there’s no reason anyone would behave the way he is. Without hope for coerced quid pro quo.
He’s 100% gunning for tribute. The grift is all he knows. It’s not a strawman.
Isn’t he already bought and komrpomised by Russia?
I suppose he could always double dip, not sure how happy Putin would be.
Wdit: I’ll standby this point: if that’s your opinion, then it sounds feasible. It is not fact and I’d prefer we not create our own facts. It was stated as fact, not opinion.
It’s very likely. Though I don’t think Putin really needed to with him. I think all he had to do was offer him some money and Trump would eagerly play along. Money and his ego are his only morals. If you play to either one of those. You can puppeteer him all day long.
What I said was no more opinion than what you said. Which is fair. Though I would point out that this is very highly backed by evidence and facts. But again, as with all things. Until such time as we get him in captivity of some sort where he can be fully evaluated. Yes. All of this is largely opinion, observation and speculation either way.

He did not require tribute. He’s saying that the nations that are not meeting their obligations to the treaty… He’d recommend be attacked.
He’s clearly unhinged, but the US is not demanding to be paid here. He’s saying the countries should be more invested in their own military readiness.
It’s Article 3 of the NATO agreement and Trump’s statements are (unusually) clear on this.
He’s no diplomatic or strategist. He’s alienating allies. But we don’t need to strawman him in order to say he’s daft.
