From what I have heard what needs to be addressed is more about working conditions than funding. Tons of nurses are working on short term contracts. If we could actually give them stable jobs that might make a bigger difference than increasing their pay further.
AFAIK the pay increases have been brought up mainly as a compensation of having to do work in an undesirable environment. So not a real fix, but at least some incentive to keep people from leaving for other jobs.
Increased salaries would be much simpler to implement than a major reorganization of management and hiring practices. If we can’t manage that, then I don’t really have any hope for more effective solutions
