    Ukraine is a country.

If you said “Ukraine is Nazi”, that would be a gigantic, serious accusation, and also not very specific.

Do you mean their citizenry predominantly follows the Naziism (or Hitlerism if you prefer)? Or do you mean that their government follow this system, presumably at the behest of their voter base?

Neither are remotely true of course, and it’s deeply offensive to us Europeans to be compared to Nazi scum, especially for the Ukrainians who are currently being genocided by neo-nazis, so I can understand why, depending on how you phrased your offensive remark, you might end up being removed from a community.

Lying in a way that is intensely and deeply offensive is a good way to get banned, unfortunately.

I think you misread, I was saying that Ukrainians weren’t nazis.

The comment argument went like this:

I said the cold war was over, and a commenter said to me:

NATO is still collaborating with Nazis to this day. You can’t see a single picture from Ukraine that doesn’t have a Nazi patch and Canada recently gave a standing ovation for a “Ukrainian war hero” who, uh oh, was a general for the waffen SS. I mean, what do you expect from an institution literally started by a Nazi? The fact that people still choose not to see it leads me to the most regrettable of conclusions.

      I replied:

This is Russian propaganda. You are helping authoritarians and literal nazis by claiming that Ukrainian independence is linked to Nazism. The West may be ignorant about Ukrainian history, but Ukraine is an egalitarian democracy. Despite what Putin and his allies tell you, Ukraine is not “full of nazis”

And my comment was deleted and I was banned for 3 days from [email protected]

I’m Swedish for what it’s worth, and yeah it’s fucking stupid that these tankies think that Russian neo-nazi batallions have been fighting in Ukraine to “denazify it”. It’s just stupid fucking Russian nationalism and dictator bootlicking.

Yeah. I think it’s mostly the worldnews mods who are abusing their power, the admins are communists but they don’t seem to ban people for not being communists.

But I’m a bit torn because the admins of lemmy.ml are also the main developers of Lemmy. I donate $20/month to them to help fund the development of Lemmy, but I’m not gonna donate to someone who abuses mod/admin powers to support Putin.
