Hello. I am a reddit refugee and I am starting to really like Lemmy as it’s way easier to set up than I have initially thought, however I still have one question - does Lemmy let users block specific instances to not show up when feed is set to “All”?

I’m not sure about whole instances (might require that you run your own), but I noticed I can block communities pretty much the same way I can subscribe to them.

Thanks for your reply. I have already blocked few communities that I didn’t wanted to show up in my feed but ability to block whole specific instance would be really useful to me.

Yup, I agree. Should be fairly simple to implement as the community level blocking already exists.

Only at the admin level currently. Users can’t block entire instances. You can do it on Mastodon though.

Yes. If you are running your own instance, go into the site settings (I believe /admin) and there is a field to put in a list of instances you want to block. Those instances will no longer federate to yours.

I’m not sure what that does for users from those instances though?

I am not running my own instance as I am too stupid for that :D. I just registered on lemmy.world therefore I am looking for a solution possible for a regular user.

I see. In that case, only the admin for Lemmy.world can block instances. The alternative would be to find an instance that blocks the instance already, and sign up there. You can still subscribe to communities on Lemmy.world from the “new” instance.

Thank you. I just found that beehaw already blocks content from lemmygrad. Too bad there is no way to migrate between instances like with Mastodon.

It would be nice if they could add this feature in the future. I don’t like them to be blocked by default necessarily, but I’d like to do it manually. I don’t want to see lemmygrad or furry porn in my new, so I’d rather just hand disable them.
