I think this is an important conversation to have especially in the context of the fediverse.
Open systems are susceptible to capture. I know we were concerned about this when FB announced ‘Threads’.
Its hard to maintain any kind of open forum or commons when you have bad faith actors who can freely engage in them.
I don’t know what the solution is but I think there are parallels in the way we see governments being captured, these kinds of scientific conferences being captured, movements being captured. Its worth talking about in the context of a broader societal issue that I think we’ve collectively titled “The enshitification of all things”.
