It’s because they are sadistic, corporate bastards that need to be taken down! All corporate bastards need to be taken down.
We don’t need corporations, we need all volunteer, donation-funded organizations.
They’re banning all humans
Someone should start Blueit. See cuz they blew it, get it?
So is Lemmy the dumping ground for people getting banned on reddit now?
I just came back from a 3 day ban. I was warned before. In the 10+ years I’ve been on reddit this has never happened to me. But whatever. Lemmy is a great alternative.
I just recently found out Reddit has achievements. I don’t use their official apps or new desktop so I never saw them. When I see what Reddit looks like to most people it is so bizarre. Like completely different experience.
Thank goodness Lemmy looks and feels the way it should.
Hello everyone. You’re not alone. I got banned like for 4-5 times, using local Ukrainian words that may look like slurs, but they aren’t.
I got unbanned, but I am still too scared to write anything about politics on Reddit. I want a working account there for IT questions.
Make another account then. I have a shit posting account for making comments I know will be dicey. Reddit mods are fat slobs don’t let them stop you from living your dreams.
they keep banning any other accounts I made there over being linked with the first one. I have tried unique email addresses and everything but they still figure it out within 24 hours, even when I 'm not allowed to post anything. So I just dont use reddit at all anymore.
you probably need to use a new device and on a network you havent frequently used. Unique email addresses dont mean anything if you’re logging in with the same browser with the same cookies and “digital footprint”
Burn all your tracking cookies associated with reddit, kill all your browsing history, then reset your router for a minute, then use a fresh e-mail and not a disposable one to register a new account. Using a VPN will also get you insta-flagged.
Keep in mind most subs will not let you comment or post without a karma history, find some large meme subs that let new accounts post and just say bland shit for a day.
Luckily, I’ve never had issues with reddit mods, but I received a f*ck ton of global bans on r/reddit_ukr (getting carpet bombed by russian bots and the half of the comments are [deleted])
It’s the time to discover the fediverse ig. Btw any ideas where I can dump a ton of random IT memes?
There’s a shitpost area.
I think it’s something like i7t12 ie /c/iiiiiiitttttttttttt but it could be just something that looks like that
I guess my advice wasn’t anygood, hardware bans and ip can go in effect if you get banned. I love Lemmy, but this community is still a young, subs for a lot of niche hobbies and shit posting dont really exist…yet.
I use voyager and kept scrolling through the reconmended sub’s list until I found something I was looking for. The search feature is hit or miss, I didnt find anything for IT memes.
I haven’t really checked this site out in a long time, but I found it helpful in the past: https://lemmyverse.net/communities
Reddit mods are fat slobs who can be easily duped, but Reddit algorithims will autoban you for making new accounts.
I’m basically exiled from it until I decide to get a new device and sign in on a new network other than my home or my work.
they will detect your alternate account through fingerprinting you
it’s where I am currently, unable to use any of my 100% wholesome and positively contributing accounts because I shared the opinion of “Oh no, anyways” on a burning Tesla dealership post, got banned from world news with no explanation, asked for elaboration and did not receive it, and then continued to post in that sub with another account.
did I ban evade? yes. did I first attempt to find out why I was banned? yes. was I ignored and thus continued to participate with other accounts, being careful to say nothing even close to provocative with those accounts? yes.
didn’t matter. they identified it as the same account, they banned it.
Use a different email and a different browser. Turn off IP tracking in settings. You may even need to use a VPN.
or, yaknow… just fuggen leave that shitshow and be free right here
I’ve been treated the same way, lost about 7 accounts each over 12 years old because some mod didn’t like me telling off an incel and from there sent it to admins and from there it’s been repeated bans and shadowbans.
I am done with reddit, I’ve seen behind the curtain in my time there, I know how bad it really is. The whole platform is now an AI training-bed and in some communities more than half the users appear to be bots. Very clever, very well-disguised, but you can tell if you check their history. They want to be able to control large-scale narratives and it’s working.
But if anyone wants to try to keep fighting the bot army, you can create a new account by deleting all your reddit cookies and browsing history, resetting your modem for a minute, then making a new account with a new email. (Use Gmail or another name-brand on, they now shadowban accounts made from disposable emails.)
Also, do not use a VPN ever. Instant permanent shadowban, and you have to start all over.
From there you just need to establish some karma history so you can post. Memes and other content-grind subreddits let even new accounts last I checked.
If you don’t want your account banned immediately, do not make political opinions, do not argue with anyone, do not sass reddit even through they deserve far worse. Don’t reply to yourself or your alt accounts, they can now tell immediately. Do not report anyone, they now will use reporting as an excuse to ban you if they decide they don’t like you.
This is too much effort. I’ll wait and see if the Digg reboot is worth using.
That one looks fun too, hopefully they can end the monopoly Reddit has
At this point, I think the better alternative is to just say NO! to content aggregators and like… take walks instead.
Seriously, I changed my daily hour-long lunch break from browsing the internet to walking outside and it’s done so much good, and I miss being connected to the world less and less. I am using all the sites less, even Lemmy and Youtube get less enjoyable when you get your brain focused on other goals.
It won’t be. It can’t be. It will have to monetize, then it will have to restrict, and you end up with the same problems Reddit has.
I was watching a “Town Hall” sort of thing on YouTube with the founders behind the reboot. They seem like the sort of people who are too rich not to be detached from the perspectives of the common person. So I think you’re probably right.
I just found out about this too, but on Samsung phones you can install an app on the “secure folder” and that’s basically another device ID so even if you install the app there it doesn’t ban you.
Recently changed my phone, and while my new phone is completely reddit free, I tried this “secure folder” thing on my old phone(installed the official app via apk but patched to remove ads) that already was banned with a completely new account and so far it’s working well, I’ve left a few comments and such and haven’t been shadowbanned.
Now I’ll probably won’t post or do much on it anyways, I’m committing to use it less and less, but I can’t really confidently say that Lemmy fills out all communities as Reddit does
How do you patch to remove ads?
Get the apk from apk mirror and then patch it using ReVanced manager
I recognize this as English.
I’ll have to look into everything you said here. I may be old, but I’m always game to learn new tricks. Thanks.
That’s good to know, if I ever really, really need to throw shade at some comment I see on Reddit i’ll give that a shot… but honestly, I’m also mostly clean and free from “using” and probably will avoid it so I don’t backslide into that fetid mess. I find I don’t miss it that much anymore and have become a LOT more productive without having those comment sections to scroll every day and every lunch break.
Yeah me too. Honestly I like knowing that I CAN use it if needed, specially if there’s an obscure IT question I might need help with. But having it on a whole other phone let’s me not want to use it because it would mean having a whole other device to take care of battery and ughh you lost me there , so that’s my compromise, I keep it on my desk turned off until needed
Honestly I like knowing that I CAN use it if needed
I love how reddit’s social section is now regarded the same way as a product like condoms or guns or narcan.
My solution is to browse subreddits without signing in so whenever I go to up vote or down vote anything I can’t and think, “oh right,” then go back to Lemmy (which is quickly becoming a higher quality experience anyways).
The censorship on reddit is insane, I can’t even post this picture there !
got permed for suggesting that the time to protest is now, before protesting becomes illegal and prosucetable und law lol
Reading all these ban stories, I’m glad I left during the API thing! I don’t like censoring myself.
Do they really nag for streaks? Damn, it’s sadder than I thought…
I recently deleted my active, 16-year-old, account after being told I was inciting violence simply by commenting that a particular GOP senator had himself to blame for an issue he was trying to pin on others.
I’ve had my reddit account for 17 years and I received my first warning for inciting violence because I commented “this makes me want to make a whip and go to town on these people” (a reference to Jesus running out the money changers in the temple) on a video of a megachurch service showing a woman painting trump bowing to a cross.
Reddit censorship is out of control. I got a warning about ‘violence’ today. My crime? I reported that the guy who is currently spamming every Australian mobile phone with messages about out the ridiculous Trumpet of patriots party is getting spammed back. I said “couldn’t happen to a nicer fascist”. Ffs.
I received a 7 day ban for threatening violence. My comment was, “He should have spray-painted a swastika in red” in response to video of a guy who spray-painted “USA” on a presidential placard in Trump Tower. I’m done with Reddit after 11 years.
