Hi, I have a situation where I have a tv show in two different languages. One is original the other is dubbed. The dubbed episodes are cut differently than the original, so muxing the audio tracks together and use the original video track in an mkv file is impossible.
Is there a way to switch not only between the audio tracks in jellyfin but to also switch the video track with the audio? Like, I create an mkv file with both video and audio tracks. When I then switch the audio language in jellyfin it should also load the corresponding video track from the mkv file.
For example, VLC player can switch between the different video tracks.
I don’t think so.
But you can have multiple versions of the same piece of media, and there will be selector to switch between them.
So you don’t need to put both versions into a single file for things to work.
this only works with movies. As far as I tried it does not work with tv show episodes. I gave both video files the same name with different language tags:
- TV Show S01E01 [English].mp4
- TV Show S01E01 [German].mp4
All it does is show the Episode twice in the episode list. One with the correct name and description and one with just the file name and no description.
Plus you can’t just watch a season of a tv show because the episodes would be played one by one. One time for each language.
Then you need to merge them.
Navigate to one of the episodes, then in the list of other episodes long click the other version. It will become selected, then from the top right select “merge versions”.
I have several shows that have episodes with more than one version.
Ok, I didn’t know that’s a feature. It should work right out of the box like with movies tbh.
But it works, thank you.
Could it be that automerge is not working because you are missing a hyphen? The movie section in the Jellyfin docs states:
To distinguish between versions, each filename needs to have a space, hyphen, space, and then a label.
When I add the Hyphen like this:
- TV Show S01E01 - [English].mp4
- TV Show S01E01 - [German].mp4
nothing changes. The episode is listed twice and I have to manually merge them together.
Btw. I’m currently on the newest version 10.9.11.
did you do a rescan for the library?
Yes I did several times
If it just language add the audio track to one of the mkvs. Ignore me I see your episodes are different cuts.
Out of curiosity, which TV show are we talking about? I’ve never heard of different cuts between language versions.
It’s the german version of an anime vs the original version with subtitles. The german version is about a minute shorter per episode.
But why is that? Which part is cut shorter?
Ask the studios that bought the rights to broadcast and dub the anime XD There are some scenes in the OG that drag on which they shortened in the dub.
