It's crazy to think it's already been 20 years since Team America: World Police hit theaters, and yet despite how clever and outrageously hilarious it was, the movie never saw a sequel. With the anniversary putting eyes back on the Trey Parker and Matt Stone action-comedy, some may be wondering whether a sequel could still work all these years later, and while I would certainly love to see one, I think the time may have passed for it. The first movie came at the perfect time for its political satire regarding America's involvement in international war affairs, but considering the country has drastically rolled back on this in recent years, it doesn't seem like now would be a good time for Parker and Stone to revisit the hilarious world of Team America.
God no, that film did not age particularly well. It was funny at the time, sorta, but it no longer works.
Counterpoint:
“Matt Damon”
Yeah, that movie was a perfectly timed parody of the War On Terror™. For a sequel to work today, the background must be changed.
Ever since america won the war on terror, the movie kinda just doesn’t work anymore
