I don’t think this franchise is good movie material. I remember playing the games and not caring about the story at all. There is no character development or interesting plot, just shooting people and everyone acting eccentric and telling potty jokes. The movie had little substance to go off of.

That’s not a diss to the game. It’s fine that the game is like that, but they should have recognized it would produce pitfalls for a movie adaptation.

The cast is a whole other issue. Why would they go with Cate blanchet for this?

Disagree. It’s a quippy action comedy with a unique visual style and plenty of explosions, with just enough minor social critique to keep things from being too brainless, but not enough to actually take a stance on anything, perfect summer blockbuster material.

They just didn’t a do good job of…any of that.

A good writer and director can make a good movie out of anything. This one had neither.

Borderland 2 has excellent characters and story. It just doesn’t slap it to your face.

The game hides the serious stuff behind humour. It’s part of the universe : everything is so fucked up that people become crazy to overcome it.

It wasn’t as good in the first game, but borderland 2 is a masterpiece. And the movie understand nothing of it.

The TLA live adaptation is… fine though. It’s so stilted it’s painful and some other stuff, but Iroh/Zuko stole the show and it did a few interesting things.

      There is no movie.

I just wanted to say… Give bl3 another chance. Yeah the main story is cringe garbage. But man is the game driping with atmosphere, the visuals, sound design, and soundtrack are master class.

You can tell a lot of talented people put their soul into the game, just not the writers lmao.

I dunno how this happens, especially when borderlands 2 was fine.

I get it, writing is hard, I do it some… but still. Sometimes I really stop and think “people were paid to write this for a video game?”

Also, Avatar needs a video game so bad.

Like I would give my kidney for a BG3/CP2077 scale Avatar game, with the same kind of writing.

Depends on what you mean by “huge success” but honestly I’d say it’s a good moment in an otherwise lackluster decade for the franchise. Especially compared to the 1/2/tales era. Pre-sequel and 3 did not do well at all and TTW did decently but not enough to resuscitate the franchise. Very much came and went.

        After this movie disaster? Yikes.
