DALLAS (AP) — The uncle of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooter who killed 19 students and two teachers begged police to let him try to talk his nephew down, according to a 911 call included in a massive trove of recordings and transcripts released by city officials Saturday.

“Maybe he could listen to me because he does listen to me, everything I tell him he does listen to me,” said the man, who identified himself as Armando Ramos. “Maybe he could stand down or do something to turn himself in,” Ramos said, his voice cracking.

identified as Salvador Ramos, was with him at his house the night before. He said his nephew stayed with him in his bedroom all night, and told him that was upset because his grandmother was “bugging” him.

“Oh my god, please, please don’t do nothing stupid,” the man says on the call. “I think he’s shooting kids.”

The call came in at about 1 p.m. on May 24, 2022, about 10 minutes after the shooting had stopped. Salvador Ramos was fatally shot by officials at 12:50 p.m.

These “brave” men and women of the Uvalde police force who are dedicated to doing fuck-all when crisis breaks out.

How can it be that we keep finding out more shit that paints these cops as completely fucking useless?

…and somehow US cops are confused as to why people don’t trust them, think they’re a joke, and want to see them defunded.

Without disputing that there were a lot of fuckups, this feels like a kind of pointless article given the uncle called 10 minutes after the shooter was shot by police, not sure there was much he could have done at that point.

Useless? Yes. Lazy and scared? Also yes. But cruel and malicious? No, I just don’t see the evidence of that. Even if these weren’t members of their own small community, more bloodshed means more paperwork. Let’s give the Uvalde Police the respect they deserve: the absolute minimum.

Not only doing nothing but actively preventing anyone from trying to do something.

Uvalde county overwhelmingly voted Abbott, and re elected all the sheriffs, judges and politicians who did nothing while kids died. I guess my empathy is all spent, when I see that they don’t even care about their own kids who died. They had a chance to bring about change and instead chose Republicans again. Uvalde doesn’t deserve my sympathy.

So because the majority of voters voted Republican the parents who lost children deserve no empathy from you, even if you don’t knwo how they voted.

This is a shit take. Everybody who lost a child deserves empathy, period.

If that community doesn’t care about it’s own kids, I’m not gonna waste my energy. I’ll give my support to people who want it
