If the Russians try to recapture it using their usual tactics, they bomb their own critical infrastructure, if they don’t, they look weak, and it’s a very useful bargaining chip for peace.

I have a feeling that the talking heads calling for an immediate peace along the frontline will stop doing that once Russia also would need to cede territory.
