Imma just drop this here
The downsides are having to report Capital Gain, and losing the ability to report Capital Loss.
You just weigh those costs (tax owing for capital gain, or loss of tax credit for capital loss) to see if they are sufficiently offset by the expected returns.
Please forgive me for doing a straight paste from the Canada Revenue Agency page:
"You can also make “in kind” contributions (for example, securities you hold in a non-registered account) to your TFSA, as long as the property is a qualified investment.
You will be considered to have disposed of the property at its FMV at the time of the contribution. If the FMV is more than the cost of the property, you will have to report the capital gain on your income tax and benefit return. However, if the cost of the property is more than its FMV, you cannot claim the resulting capital loss. The amount of the contribution to your TFSA will be equal to the FMV of the property."

Sync is excellent but doesn’t support this yet.
Those who forget USENET are doomed to repeat it forevermore…
Use sync but switch up your theme!
Something like Google’s Exposure Notification API but for memes… All the controversy but none of the morbidity…
Here are a couple more:
There are several projects along these lines. Here’s one of them:
I found an answer on StackExchange that refers to a tool called rsync-sidekick which looks like it could achieve your aims.
Edit: There is also another answer on that same StackExchange page referring to a script called rsync-prepare which is capable of working with a remote destination.
Flood/water sensors:
Smart valve on mains water supply so you can automatically cut off water to the entire house if any of your leak sensors alert.
You could then call a friend or family member and ask them to check on it.
Or if you had it on a smart outlet you could try rebooting it.
If you live in a climate in which you need to winterize your outdoor faucets (e.g. by shutting a valve in your basement, crawlspace, or garage) a temperature sensor on the warm side of the valve can save you from a flood.
I had to replace the garage door opener one winter and failed to notice a new quarter inch gap at the bottom of the garage door. Combine that with a cold snap and the garage dropped below freezing for long enough to burst pipes.
Fortunately I had a Shelley flood sensor on the floor so I was alerted fairly early and was able to avoid serious damage, but had I been paying attention to the pipes themselves I could have avoided a plumber call-out on Christmas Eve!
When cruising the All feed you must use the Block feature if you value your sanity.
I like the idea of packaging up a user liked that. Check out lasim for someone doing something similar.
But, you don’t really need to create an account on every instance you encounter.
One account is enough if you pick a reasonably sane instance that hasn’t gotten itself defederated.
From an account on one instance you can view All, subscribe to Communities on any instance, and generally just use that as your home base.
If you want a few accounts as insurance in case the instance you picked goes offline due to external factors or for whatever reason, you can use lasim to synchronize your subscriptions between instances.
I knew there was a reason I saved all those IRC chat logs!
Folks.
