12·1 day agoTrump, and a large portion of the US electorate, don’t understand soft power. The idea of propping others up helps yourself; of graciously taking a back seat in one area to strengthen your position in another. It’s fucking infuriating, and it’s going to have ramifications long after Trump joins Kissinger.

A distant family member of mine was (is) a Marine, and made it to Drill Instructor before the effects of his PTSD from 3 tours and a TBI became too much (ie he basically had a psychotic break) and he medically retired.
After he got out, he and I talked about it one time. He told me that he’d had a lot of trauma growing up and was fairly bigoted when he first went in. But that after a while he couldn’t care less about someone’s sex, gender, race, religion, etc (at least as far as the people who had joined; he admits civilians are still a tough thing for him), because when you’re in the suck, none of that matters. The only thing he cared about is whether the person next to him was properly trained and willing to put their life on the line for him, just like he would for them.
It’s not to piss them off, but to send a message. Just like Putin, he’s going to put the screws to somebody wealthy to send the message “I did it to them, I can do it to you.”
It’s not about the House or the EC, it’s the Senate. 2 more reliably R senators makes things worse

Bullshit. Fuck that noise. I have family that I’ve cut out as well (although, luckily, not my parents). I’m 100% open to them rejoining my life, but their hatred for others is stronger than their love for me, and I won’t allow them back until that changes. Spoiler alert: it probably never will, because there’s no love like Christian “love”.
“Agree to disagree” is reserved for things like “I don’t like coffee.” Not racism, homophobia, and sexism. Not human rights. Not basic common decency. If I unfriend you during this, it IS personal. We do not have a difference of opinion. We have a difference in morality.

I fucking hate these “personality assessments”. This is from one I just took the other day. One of around 50 questions.
No, the X stops that navigation session entirely, and that’s not what I’m looking for. Depending on where you are going, how many stops you have loaded, etc, you may not be able to easily start a new session. Breaking up the session also messes up any details about the overall trip, if anyone is trying to gather that.
Google Maps does have this function for Android Auto, so I’m not sure why the mobile Maps doesn’t.
Can we please get a “pause” button in navigation apps?
I don’t need to be yelled at to make a u-turn every 5 seconds just because I got off the freeway to get gas.
I do Top/6hrs, but will jump over to Hot if I’ve been scrolling too long and run out of content.
