President Donald Trump on Wednesday acknowledged that his tariffs could result in fewer and costlier products in the United States, saying American kids might “have two dolls instead of 30 dolls,” but he insisted China will suffer more from his trade war.

China: home ownership increasing average income increasing best transportation network for a large, stratified country in the world

Wow yeah sure looks like they’re losing.

No you dont understand, affecting 12% of exports representing a total of 8% of their gdp will totally bring down chayna and make them pay for illegally seducing capitalists into removing manufacturing from the US in search of destroying socialism. It’ll be the end of chaaiiiina this time.

Except the kids aren’t getting 2 dolls. They’re getting dragged out into the middle of the street half naked in the middle of the night because the brownshirts can’t even read an address correctly when they’re casually disappearing whole families.

Why the fuck is this even reported on. Fuck this whole system, down to the author that thought ‘ya that’s worth making an article’

Don’t buy your kids dolls. Buy them fpv drones.

I don’t understand the hard on the right has for China yet they benefit greatly from China’s low costs. As soon as the USSR fell and Islamic fundamentalism faded away I just knew the US would be looking for a new boogeyman to keep us distracted and justify defense spending.

The fact that they call it a defense budget and not a military budget kind of says it all too.

I’m all for actually defending your country, of course, but yeah…

Even if this were true, a policy that hurts everyone isn’t sucessful just because someone else suffers more than you.

If your suffering is negligibly small and your opponent’s – critical for him, then you can demand something.

Imagine a war where all sides are losing soldiers but one side is winning.

But in the case of China I’m not sure who will suffer more in the long run.

Consumers in both countries, as it always is with tariffs.

I doubt that Chinese customers depend much on imports from the USA. They might feel the overall slowering the economy until China finds a new destination for its goods, but that’s it.

Well, they need work in factories which produce goods for the US customers. If no one is going to buy those goods, these people will be out of a job.

until China finds a new destination for its goods

Yes, but the USA isn’t the only market. It was convenient because of its size, but nothing irreplaceable.

You realise that the companies that will no longer want to produce in China because of the tariffs will move to India or Vietnam or literally anywhere else? Kinda like Apple and Samsung are doing.

And? Some will move, others – won’t. Moving industry is a huge deal. It isn’t easy. And most companies understand that the problem is not China but Trump. Today Americans are required to pay additional taxes for Chinese stuff, tomorrow they will pay for Indian stuff.

When your worldview is completely transactional, and you believe that literally everything is zero-sum, then you do view that as successful.

No, see, you start with the assumption that everything is zero-sum, then you look at the other guy to see suffering and conclude that you must therefore be winning.

Because that’s what it’s all about - someone else suffering more. The objective is to increase the amount of suffering in the world, since we clearly don’t have enough of it just yet, but making sure others suffer more than us. Because trying to make it so that everyone suffers less is communist, unamerican and bad, I guess…

Truth has never been better said.
