      I think the idea is that it could replace some land mining and also drop the price for precious metals. If you can drop these prices then batteries become cheaper which could encourage more people to move away from fossil fuels. However, we really don’t have a good understanding of the deep ocean floor at this point, so its hard to say what consequences this will have. Obviously it’s not ideal, but it could be the lesser of two evils.

        Could be but probably won’t. In 30 years we will be wondering how no-one foresaw how much damage deep sea mining caused (and still won’t act to stop it anyway).
