Many criticize ex-president’s appearance at Black journalists’ conference as irresponsible
On Monday night, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announced that Donald Trump will participate in a panel discussion at the organization’s annual convention in Chicago, which starts on Wednesday.
The announcement, which said that the Q&A would “concentrate on the most pressing issues facing the Black community”, was met with swift online backlash from some Black journalists. They decried the decision to invite a presidential candidate who has lambasted Black journalists, led a movement to squash diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and who is responsible for increased anti-journalistic sentiment, including the popularization of the term “fake news” to describe factual, but potentially unflattering, reporting.
Tiffany Walden, a co-founder and editor-in-chief of The TRiiBE, a digital platform that focuses on Black Chicago, told the Guardian that NABJ’s decision was “irresponsible”.
Maybe they’re playing to fuck him up by asking proper, unscripted questions?

It’s still a true journalists job to try
in the same way a phlebotomist should still try to get blood from an actual stone?
because - and with all due respect to journalists of all backgrounds - i’m neither black nor a journalist, but i would think that if i were either (or both) i’d know a huge waste of my time when i saw one.
Can’t think of many true journalists in corporate media.
But I bet they can find a way to get him to say the N-word in front of a bunch of journalists if they try.
They’re legit trying to get him to freak out and yell the racist sexist shit that’s scrolling through his head all day.
Remember, he doesn’t like nasty questions. Like : “What do you say to Americans, who are watching you right now, who are scared?”
He covered that one already, and he’ll probably say it again: “stand back and stand by.”
This doesn’t work. I hope they’re not naive enough to think that’ll work. It doesn’t even matter what happens there. All Trump and his team want is the victory of him appearing there. They want the photo opportunity, they want the headline, they want to be able to say look the blacks love us. And they know nobody in their base is going to question it. They also know the vast majority of Americans won’t check into the actual events

The outcry led to the NABJ president, Ken Lemon, and others defending the decision, saying that Black reporters should have the opportunity to question a political candidate.
“Every year, every presidential election cycle, we invite the presidential candidates to come,” Lemon said to NABJ student journalists on Tuesday. “We extend that to anyone who is a nominee and in this case we have two presumptive nominees. We invited both of them … This is an important hour. We have people whose lives are depending on what happens in November … This is a great opportunity for us to vet the candidate right here on our ground.”
It’s the constantly giving him a platform and not pushing back on his BS. But a quick google confirms that pretty much all candidates have spoken except tRump until now. He skipped it last time.
Kamala should say yes, as well, with a tweet (ugh) that says “Any time, any place.”
Ask him his favourite Bible verse.

Sounds like something you could say about nearly anything the man has done that impacts anyone other than himself.
Personally, I understand their concerns, but I also think in the end it’s just going to be a good opportunity for Trump to show his ass and then strut around like he’s done something we should all be impressed by. (as usual)
If he can refrain from saying the N-word I’ll be mighty impressed.
I think he’ll manage that, but I wonder how many times he will mention “the blacks” or “the coloreds.” I wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear a “you people” or two.
